Community-only average: 3.0
Released in 2016, Matière Noire by Louis Vuitton is rose, floral, fruity perfume with oud undertones. Crafted by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. Makes one feel mature, well dressed, and intelligent with a dark side, stunning and complex black currant and oud combination, elegant and translucent handling of notes. It opens with blackcurrant syrup and watery notes, transitions through heart notes of cyclamen, jasmine sambac, narcissus and rose, and settles into a warm base of agarwood (oud), benzoin, incense and patchouli. Good Projection and performance is above average 6+ hours.

There's a beautifully dark and sophisticated aura to Matière Noire, which, despite being officially described as feminine, is absolutely wearable for a man who appreciates a richer, complex scent profile. That initial blackcurrant and watery freshness quickly transitions into a captivating blend of deep rose and prominent oud, softened by warm incense and patchouli. Its performance is excellent, easily lasting all day with strong projection, making it ideal for an elegant evening out or a special social gathering. For me, it’s not an everyday grab, but it’s got a mysterious quality that just works on cooler nights.
