Released in 2014, Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford is floral, sweet, powdery perfume with amber undertones. Crafted by Antoine Maisondieu, Calice Becker, Shyamala Maisondieu and Yann Vasnier. Sexy and mature fragrance, distinctive and rich notes, intoxicating rum and warm vanilla scent. It opens with bergamot, honey, mandarin orange and rum, transitions through heart notes of black orchid, heliotrope, hyacinth, jasmine, magnolia, narcissus, orange blossom, orchid and rose oil, and settles into a warm base of labdanum, myrrh, peru balsam, sandalwood, suede and vanilla. Good Projection and performance is above average 6+ hours.

Velvet Orchid strikes me as a really opulent, deep floral, clearly a feminine flanker to the original Black Orchid. It's got that boozy honeyed sweetness over a rich base, making it a powerful statement scent. This one has great longevity and a noticeable sillage, perfect for a formal event or a special date night, but probably too much for office wear or a casual day out.
