Released in 2015, Begum by Xerjoff is woody, rose, powdery perfume with floral undertones. Crafted by Chris Maurice. It opens with bergamot, freesia, lemon and red berries, transitions through heart notes of bulgarian rose, damask rose, iris, jasmine sambac, lilac, lily-of-the-valley and ylang-ylang, and settles into a warm base of amber, musk, palisander rosewood, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla and vetiver. Projection Monster and performance is long lasting 8+ hours.

Begum is a rich, opulent floral chypre that immediately brings to mind classic elegance with a modern twist. The prominent rose and other white florals are beautifully balanced by the bright berry and citrus opening. While marketed as unisex, I find it leans quite feminine on my skin, making it perfect for a confident woman or a man who truly loves a sophisticated floral. This thing is a powerhouse, projecting enormously and lasting all day, making it a great choice for a formal event or a special social gathering where you want to make a statement, though perhaps a bit much for an office setting.
